Marugo is the 4th highest rating tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo and only 4 minute walk from the busy Akihabara Station. Although it's in the heart of the touristy Akihabara, but Marugo is loved my locals and usually has a line up. Aside from counter seats, there's a little dining hall upstairs so we were in line for about 20 minutes.
We opted for the ￥2,100 tonkatsu set which includes rice, soup and pickled vegetables on the side. The pork loin has an even layer of fat and it's one the thickest and juiciest tonkatsu I've had! The panko crust is ultra thin and crispy, not to mention the sauce is to die for! There's a bucket of sauce at every table so you can help yourself. Sadly they don't sell the sauce but the owner was so thoughtful and gave us 2 small bottles of the sauce as a souvenir! The service and food was impeccable! If you're touring around Akihabara, you should definitely hit up this local joint to see why locals love Marugo so much!
