Miruatei 三浦亭

Miruatei is ranked 2nd in Japan and the highest rated omurice in Tokyo! It's about a 35 minute subway ride away from Shinjuku, we purposely went a little out of the way to check this place out. It's tucked away in a local residential area with only 6 counter seats and run by one man alone. He's the owner, the waiter, the chef, the cashier and cleaner; He runs the whole show.

We got there on a Thursday afternoon at around 12:45pm since their last order is at 1:30pm. Although it was a weekday and in the middle of no where, they were full! We didn't have a reservation so the owner told us to go back at 1:30pm for the last order.

We ordered the omurice lunch set and watched the owner work his magic. When he cooks he's so in the zone, it's like he's dancing. The set comes with tomato soup, salad and omurice in Japanese beef demi-glace sauce for ¥970! It's one of the best omurice we've had and the egg is just so light and fluffy! You can also add coffee and mini dessert (slice of pie) for ¥430. So if you're tired of the busy core of Tokyo, you can venture off to the outskirts to explore great food! I highly recommend to make a reservation because there's limited seats in the middle of no where and still packed on a weekday. But that's how you know that's the good spot where locals eat.
