Daiei is completely by telephone reservations only but unfortunately, they don't accept oversea reservations. I had to get my friend in Japan to help us make the reservation. No, they're not a Michelin Star restaurant, but they're locally ranked number 2 Kobe Beef Teppanyaki restaurant within Hyogo Prefecture. Typically if you want to have Kobe Beef for dinner, it's pretty expensive, but here you only pay a fraction of the price! They're only opened for dinner so spots are limited, you may want to make a reservation earlier.
When we visited Daiei in 2015, the 200 grams Kobe Beef Steak was only ￥6,000! Their website now states the Kobe Beef Steak with vegetable set is ￥8,000 so they may have gone up in price. But compared to the usual ￥10,000 - ￥15,000 Kobe Beef dinners, Daiei is still a pretty good deal.
We wanted to budget the dinner so we order 3 Kobe Beef Steaks between 4 people. They're also known for their garlic fried rice and okonomiyaki so we got those to share. The fried rice is ￥1,200 and the okonomiyaki is ￥1,000 and it was huge! Ordering these sides made the dinner more affordable and we were really stuffed after everything! If you have a local friend or your hotel is willing to help you make a reservation, I highly recommend Daiei! It's a local hidden gem, affordable and the quality is amazing.
