Kiyomizu-dera is one of THE most popular temples in Kyoto and is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's quite a steep walk up to the temple but there's lots of souvenir shops and food booths along the way. It's always packed with foreigners and there's also lots of students on their school trip here.
The best times to come here is during Cherry Blossom season and the fall with the Autumn leaves right beside the temple. A ton of people are stuck in the corner where everyone's taking pictures of the trees and Kiyomizu-dera. Another popular time visit is during their special night viewing illumination which happens few times a year. So if you're in town during their scheduled night viewing, I highly recommend it over the day time. Make sure you bring a good camera with you! My pictures are kinda blurry.
